Thank you so much, Carole! One of these days I'd like to have enough time on the way to Toronto to stop in and see the McMichael Collection of the Group of Seven. I always seem to be going with someone else, or on too tight a schedule. Been wanting to do it for years!

Thanks Lynn, That good old artistic license kicking in again, I agree completely with you and my first mentor when I was his student at the age of 9, the great Lauren Harris of the Group of Seven. They completely rebelled against the muddy greys and browns of the late 19th and early 20th century Canadian painters, and helped turn painting around for all of us who came after them. For many years I painted with the so called traditional palette, and made a few limpid sales, then I through caution to the wind, especially after viewing the great group of 7 work at the National Gallery and the McMaster collection. As you said, where's the fun in slavish copying, let' s attack our canvases with heart, soul and COLOUR., our weapons of mass attraction. Love what you did with this storm, you took what could have been a dreary subject, and gave it life, vitality and personality. Love your thoughtful comments as well.

Thanks, June! Yup, good ole Saran wrap technique. I was demo'ing it to my beginner w/c students, with no plans to do anything more with it. Then I saw some landscapes, so cropped from the larger sheet of paper, added the trees and a bit of surface texture with the tinted charcoal.

About Lynn Quinn

Lynn Quinn

I have enjoyed drawing since childhood, and have been painting in watercolour since 2002. I really enjoy the transparency of watercolour, and like to experiment with combining watercolour with other media. In the past few years, I have also been working in pastel, and mixed media. In whatever I do, my desire is point others to the beauty and wonder that our Creator has given us to enjoy, that they may come to see His beauty and stand in awe of Him!
